Is it just me or are the above pie charts startling?
The top pie chart depicts the market share that Apple has on the mobile handset industry. As you can see Apple in the first half of 2010 sold approximately 17 million handsets, compared to 400 million by Nokia, Samsung and LG and 190 million from other companies.
The next pie chart shows those three different groups of manufacturers but shows their share of profits from the mobile handset industry. As you can see Apple accounts for 39% of the profits from the mobile handset industry compared to 32% and 29% respectively.
If my calculations are correct, Apple owns 2.8% of the mobile handset market but its profits from the mobile handset market is 39% of total profits from the mobile handset market!!
